King Godmund's Palace

This track features a chinese zitherlike instrument called a zheng

Once absent winds grow abundant
propelling the ship past arctic seas
soon they can see the sun set and rise
as they are driven southwardly

To their west appears a coastline
covered with evergreen trees
not long after they spy a bay
to harbour their ship comfortably

Ashore they send a dozen warriors
to explore what land this might be
Entering the woods they encounter
red clad damsals riding steeds

There's one maiden for each warrior
they invite them to mount their mares
They lead them to a lavish castle
the black tressed damsals reside there

They arrived at the court of King Godmund
lord of the land east of the great wall.
Godmund greeted the twelve guests
his daughters had brought to his palace

Thorsten, Throndar, Buchi, Brodd and Dag
Bergthor, Ingolf,Hromund, Frosti and Hroar
Sigroed and Hrafn were all invited to
join Godmund and his daughters at feast

After the feast Godmund informed them
his twelve sons would return from the hunt
He would like his guests to engage them
in various contests of athletic skill

Godmunds daughters each escorted one
of the twelve guests to his bedchamber
there they slept comfortably through the night
resting themselves for the morning's challenge

During the night Godmund's sons returned
bringing wild boar meat captured on their hunt
upon their arrival they learned of the
twelve strangers come to challenge them
Godmund's sons were confident they could
outdo the strangers in athletic prowess

Hvedrung and Hafil, Hripstod and Hvall
Thistlebard and Stum, Thrigeit and Spretting
Blapthvar and Salfang, Oskruth and Rangbein
Each believed himself stronger than the twelve
So they met outside in the great courtyard
Godmund's twelve sons and Gorm's dozen crewmen
