As evening drew nigh
torches were lit to augment
the fullmoon that shone it's light
through the palace window
Then Geiroth got up
as did the four warriors
that had been abducted
from the island with the fountain
Geiroth said he wanted
his guests to face the four
Danes now in his service
before he would allow them
to face his own champions
Hrorek would be the first
to compete, Heithrekk
accepted the challenge
Hrorek and Heithrek were
to fight eachother with swords
for so did King Geiroth decree
the two combatants squared off
Heithrekk took care not to hurt his friend
Hrorek took no such precaution
with savage fury he hacked away
it was all Heithrekk could do
to parry Hrorek's vicious blows
Finally Heithrekk tired
Unable to fend off Hrorek's attack
he succumbed to his sword thrust
Heithrekk fell to the ground
blood spurted from his pierced chest
Hrorek had killed his former friend
The Danes were quite upset
that Hrorek had killed Heithrek
fighting on behalf of Geiroth
betraying his comrades
several wanted to fight Hrorek
eager to avenge Heithrek
but Thorkel held them back
saying he had a better plan
Thorkel took the water
from the island fountain
mixed it with the purple liquid
pouring it into a golden cups
Then he proposed a toast
in honour of Hrorek's victory
passing the drinking cups
to the four bewitched Danes
Before Geiroth could stop them
the Danes drank the mixture
One by one they grew dizzy
and collapsed to the ground
a moment later they arose
recognizing their comrades
taking their place beside them
ready to battle Geiroth's men
