his men start defecting over to Sulla

charging through a sprawling vinyard

Making them easy prey for Metellus force
Carbo's generals are invited to
a banquet by Albinovanus
At the banquet they are treacherously slain
by their host who then joins Sulla
Carbo continues to suffer setbacks
so he flees Italy for Africa
His army is led by ad hoc leaders
who meet defeat at Sulla's hands
Young Marius, realizing all is lost
takes his own life at Praeneste
He joins Gaius Marius in Hades
whose only heir now is Julius Caesar
